1. Sushi Ishikawa
Personal interaction with the chef, fresh seasonal ingredients

Sushi Zo Sushi Zo is a classic, pure omakase experience in a small space, big enough for a sushi bar. The wonderfully fresh fish and ingenious preparation on display come together to create a sensory experience that makes the high price well worth it. You can find them in two New York neighborhoods: West Village and Midtown East. Kurumazushi Kurumazushi, which opened in 1977 (long before omakase options exploded in New York), is a wonderfully unique experience. Located on the second floor of a typical and simple street in Midtown East, you will unknowingly pass by Kurumazushi if you are not looking for it. The casual, mixed atmosphere focuses entirely on the ultra-high-quality fish and the chef's expertise, which is further emphasized by the amount of sashimi (without rice) served during the omakase. The fish shines in its purest form and you'll get cuts of fish you may have never dreamed of (think: bull shoulder, bull neck, etc.). Overall, Kurumazushi feels like one of the most authentically Japanese omakase experiences in New York.

2. Sashimi Express II
Specialize in authentic Japanese sashimi and sushi

223 E 74th St, New York, NY 10021, USA 1/10 PEOPLE SAY: Aline Miller The food is excellent for the price. I bought a bunch of sushi for only $53, which is a steal. The rice was hot and the fish tasted good. I go here often for takeout. However, the customer service was disappointing. The person behind the counter was on the phone and did not greet me. They also told me my order would take a long time because they ran out of salmon. When I got back they didn't apologize for the wait and just went back to their phone. I finally received my order after the store closed. The food is good, but the customer service needs to improve. Angela Johnson Excellent sushi! It is a hidden gem that we stumbled upon and absolutely enjoyed. The prices were reasonable and we highly recommend it.

4. Zawa Japanese

354 E 66th St, New York, NY 10065, USA 1/10 PEOPLE SAY: Alice Boren This place really deserves a 10 star review and a steady line of customers. The omakase experience is truly exceptional. The owner, Makoto, is not only talented but also incredibly personable. The attention to detail in each piece of sushi is noticeable from the first moment. The flavors are unexpectedly subtle but remarkably bold. I don't usually write reviews, but this is without a doubt one of the best omakase experiences I've had the pleasure of enjoying. Darcy Prince Always fresh and consistent sushi! The quality of the food here is exceptional. I recently visited again and was reminded of how valuable it is to make the trip to the city. I will definitely return. This place is worth it. If you're looking for sushi in town, this is 100% the place to go!
