25. Arrow Lodge Brewing

As the only Stout to make this list, you know Puff Pastry had to stand out in a big way. Honestly, this beer changed the way I look at Pastry Stouts in the future. Let me back up a second. Puff Pastry was part of a triple release for Best Buds Day, a collaboration event Arrow Lodge is hosting with Moe of Craft Beer Kings on April 20. Shortly after I got a can, I turned on my trusty camera for an episode of Uncanned and the rest is history. The first thing that catches your attention about this beer is its appearance. It's super dark and viscous like most Imperial Stouts, but it has a more enticing dark brown head, almost like hot chocolate foam. The aromas were toasty and delicious, but not overly sweet like some adjunct stouts can be. In taste, you get thick, sweet but not too sweet chocolate and vanilla, a great toasty character, and zero alcohol. It's a great dessert-style beer that I thought about regularly throughout 2020.

26. Solarc Brewing

Save to a List Website Directions Glassell Park Brewery $ $ $ $ Perfect for: Drinking great beer Earn 3 points with your Sapphire Card Opened in late 2023, Solarc is one of the newest breweries in Los Angeles and also one of the more exclusive. Instead of a typical lineup of IPAs and lagers, this Glassell Park brewery specializes in gruit, a medieval style of beer brewed with bittering agents other than hops. At Solarc, that means beer flavored with things like wormwood, black tea, and turmeric, and fermented with wild yeasts harvested in Los Angeles. The entire operation verges on being a Portlandia sketch, but there's no denying that spending a few hours in their quirky, colorful space (the walls are literally covered in tinfoil) is a great way to spend a Sunday.
