The Texas Governor's Mansion, a historic site in Austin, is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture. Although it is the official residence of the Texas Governor, it now serves as a museum and tourist attraction. The exterior may seem closed off, but guided tours allow visitors to experience the rich history within its walls. It's recommended to reserve a tour spot at least a week in advance.
During our visit, we were able to tour the first four rooms of the mansion's first level and our guide's passion for the history of the building brought it to life. We even had the opportunity to tour most of the mansion during a "governor's tailgate party" before a UT game. Despite a fire that caused significant damage about 20 years ago, the mansion has been well-preserved. The security is top-notch, but don't let that deter you from visiting one of Texas's most historic sites.
