1. The Duce
Secretive, underground location in Downtown Phoenix

The Duce is a versatile establishment offering a range of experiences under one roof. This unique complex includes a restaurant, bar, event venue, retail store, and gym. The 1960s-inspired gym allows patrons to work out, and the retail store sells retro-style gym clothing. Rich in history, The Duce features a bar from the Black Orchid Bar, once frequented by Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. The venue also offers various games, such as corn hole, shuffleboard, and foosball, and can be rented for private events.
Our family visited The Duce and found many fun activities for children while waiting for our meal, including a boxing ring and corn hole. Food and drinks are served in mason jars, and loud, eclectic music is played. Although we were told a DJ would start at 8 PM, he did not begin until 9 PM, by which time we were leaving. The crowd mainly consisted of younger people, and our meals were served 20 minutes before the rest of our party, despite both orders being placed at the same time. Parking can be challenging, and we opted for valet parking to avoid walking in the area.

The establishment's ambiance and design are spacious and inviting, including a large indoor room and a beautiful outdoor patio with a view of Downtown. The husband and wife team running the place are exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
However, there were only a few customers present during the visit, and the service was somewhat inattentive. The food selection included good dishes, with fresh-cut and crispy French fries, although the accompanying 'ketchup' was identified as a strange Mariana sauce. Nonetheless, the Siracha Ranch sauce was a delicious addition to the meal. Overall, the rich variety of beer and the warm, nostalgic atmosphere of the ale house significantly outshine the minor drawbacks in service and food choices.
