9. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
Small-batch, artisanal ice cream made from scratch

Prospect Heights is ground zero for the ice cream empire builders behind Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, brothers Ben and Peter Van Leeuwen and their partner (and Ben's wife) Laura O'Neill. The first of many in New York City, this outpost still has its original magic touch by updating nostalgic flavors, like marionberry cheesecake, peppermint chips made with dark chocolate and peppermint extract, and brownie chips of peanut butter with real brownie pieces.

10. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
Small-batch, artisanal ice cream using high-quality, natural ingredients

Reviews: 4.5/5, 250+ Google Reviews Location: They have several locations in New York. Van Leeuwen honeycomb flavored ice cream. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream started in the spring of 2008 in a buttery yellow truck on the streets of New York, serving healthy ice cream made from milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar; vegan balls are also available. The mission is to make good ice cream that makes you feel good. We see a long line every time we pass by their Upper West Side location. And we tried again a few days before Christmas, and, of course, there was a line, but much shorter. It only took us 5 minutes before our turn to walk up and ask what the signature flavor was. “It's a honeycomb! Many of our customers love it. And we also have a new flavor, matcha tea, which has a slight bitterness.”

At Milk Bar you can relive your childhood enjoying Milk and Cereal Ice Cream. While you're here, don't miss out on their other delights. My personal favorites are the Chocolate Birthday Cake Truffles and the Cornflake Marshmallow Chocolate Chip Cookies. My pick: chocolate birthday cake truffles (not ice cream, but you have to try them)
