2. The Ellington
Classic American dishes with contemporary touches

A great local restaurant, The Ellington is an ideal spot for catching up with friends or a date night. Its extensive menu features a variety of dishes that cater to different tastes, though it's worth noting that costs can add up, especially when ordering drinks. However, there are affordable deals to be found during the week. On the downside, the restaurant can get quite noisy, making it less suitable for intimate conversations.
The Ellington offers classic American dishes, all prepared with contemporary twists that add depth and sophistication. While the menu features many comforting favorites such as burgers and beers, the restaurant's ambiance is decidedly upscale, making for a refined dining experience. Essential by Christophe offers a refined and enjoyable dining experience on the Upper West Side. Our server was highly knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring a smooth dining experience.
Chef Christophe Bellanca showcases his culinary expertise through dishes that combine French technique with Asian flavors. For instance, the succulent blue prawns are accompanied by a genmaicha tuile, while the braised black sea bass is served with a shiitake chutney, razor clams, and a vibrant turmeric emulsion. Watermelon radish adds a beautiful and flavorful finishing touch to the dish. Overall, Essential by Christophe delivers an exceptional dining experience.

5. 108 Food Dried Hot Pot
First Chong Qing dry hot pot in Manhattan.

The restaurant offered a range of dishes, but the highlight of our meal was the dried pot, a dish highly recommended by our friends. The portion size was generous, making it a great option for sharing between two people. We opted for the non-spicy option, but those who enjoy heat can choose from various levels of spiciness.
Another standout dish we tried was the spicy dry hot pot, which featured delicious spicy oyster mushrooms. However, it's worth noting that the hot scale is not to be taken lightly - the spicy option is quite hot. For those new to the dish, it may be best to start with the mild option. Overall, the food at this restaurant was flavorful and authentic, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a delicious hot pot experience.

7. Daikanyama NYC
Elegant Japanese dining near Bloomingdale's

Sushi at this establishment surpasses local alternatives in both quality and freshness. However, the portion sizes and accompanying costs can be perceived as disproportionate. The standard roll selection is particularly noteworthy, offering a tantalizing blend of fresh ingredients and skillful preparation. Despite the higher-end pricing, patrons receive excellent food and service in return, providing value that transcends the cost.
This sushi establishment excels in providing high-quality and fresh offerings, setting it apart from neighboring Japanese restaurants. 9. Carmine's Italian Restaurant - Upper West Side
Traditional Italian cuisine served family-style since 1990

The mussels in the red sauce served in this establishment are generously sized, but unfortunately, diners may find that they come with an unwelcome addition of dirt and sand. This can detract from the overall dining experience, as the grit becomes a distracting and unpleasant element in each bite. Moreover, the absence of lobster on New Year's Day is a significant oversight, as many customers may have been looking forward to this particular dish during their celebrations.
On a more positive note, the service team is generally friendly and professional, providing a welcoming ambiance for guests. However, it is worth noting that there have been reports of slower service during busy periods. Furthermore, some diners have unfortunately encountered negative experiences that may have colored their perception of the restaurant as a whole. While it is important to take these individual experiences into account, it is also crucial to remember that they may not be representative of the typical service provided at the establishment.

13. Quality Eats
A modern twist on classic steakhouse favorites.

Upon visiting this establishment with my mother-in-law after a day at the MET, we found the service to be both efficient and amiable. Our reservation time was moved up, and our food arrived in a timely manner. However, the quickness of the service did not allow much time to savor our beverages before the meal.
The cuisine was largely satisfying. The burgers, which we had ordered medium, were cooked to medium-rare or rare in certain areas. Despite this, we still relished our meals. The highlight of the evening for me was the house-made Moscow Mule. The bacon (pb and jalapeño) and grilled bucheron cheese appetizers, as well as the grilled octopus and skirt steak, were all delicious selections. The monkey bread appeared appetizing but was not ordered. The S'mores dessert served as a delightful conclusion to the meal.
