The Yanaguana Garden in the center of Hemisfair Park is the sweetest playground in such a fun place. There's plenty to do at Yanaguana Garden, but in the summer, the Union Pacific Railroad Splash Pad is the place to be. There are comfortable chairs for parents, shaded areas, an artificial turf, and food options all around you. Located centrally, it's free to enter (although you may have to pay for parking; there's a garage right on Hemisfair that's free for 30 minutes and costs $1.50/30 minutes afterward). While you can walk around Hemisfair at any time, the splash zone is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. m. to 9 p.m. m.

17. Comanche Lookout
Original structure from the 1700s

Length: 4.5 miles If you're interested in Texas history, you're interested in Comanche history, and this place is crucial to the historic Native American nation's past. The Comanches used the land as a strategic point for warfare and hunting, and it was later acquired by the second president of the Republic of Texas, Mirabeau Lamar, who passed it on to his daughter. This history makes racing at Comanche Lookout Park that much better. As you ascend the hill, passing native plants like huisache, Lindheimer's hackberry, and chinaberry, think about the Texans who walked there before you. Flickr/CameliaTWU
