At first I was impressed by the variety of burgers they had, with different topping combinations to choose from. The quality of the burger was very good and it was cooked perfectly, neither too dry nor overcooked. Also, I really liked that they offer options like chicken burgers, turkey, and grilled vegetables; something you don't find in most fast food chains. The reason I think they are the best fast food burgers in San Diego is their customization options. You can really create a flavor profile that suits your tastes. From a variety of sauces to sautéed onions and mushrooms, there's something for everyone's tastes! Plus, their sides, like sweet potato fries and onion rings, add an extra layer of deliciousness when paired with your custom-made burger. All in all, The Habit Burger Grill is my favorite place to get fast food burgers here in San Diego. With plenty of delicious options to choose from and great customization capabilities, it's definitely worth a try if you're looking for a great burger! 19. The Friendly Tavern
Cozy tavern with a neighborhood feel and extensive craft beer list

Neighborhood: North Park Cost: Cheap as shit I love a good burger. So much so that this was the first category I thought of for this list. And there are many very different burgers that stand out in their own right. Just as the best beer is the one you hold in your hand, the best burger is the one that tickles your senses at the right time and with the right people. That being said, the first time I stopped by the Friendly I was alone. I just moved to a new city and stumbled upon this low-key patio hidden behind a questionable seafoam green stucco lunch counter with water stains and windows covered in punk band stickers. A woman opens the window, I place my order and sit in the back. When the smashburger known as OG Dirty Flattop arrives, she presents herself without any pretense. It looks like what you'd get from In-N-Out but like...somewhat less disguised. But the lies between the two toasted, flattened buns (presumably bought by the ton at Cosco) is a greasy masterpiece that can only be achieved after years of strategically neglecting to properly clean a griddle. I can say that this burger is bursting with flavor. So I take my first bite. Admittedly, this doesn't look like a burger that should be included on your imagined "best of" list, but I think it's just beautiful. The burger is very simple and modifications are politely declined. Gently caramelized onions in butter, a dollop of garlic aioli, and perfectly melted American cheese top two thinly cooked burgers with just the right amount of crunch on the edges. This was the right burger at the right time. Note: The Friendly has two locations. The Friendly Tavern on University Avenue is my favorite place. They lean toward burgers and have ample outdoor seating, which is a must in America's greatest city. Friendly on 30th is more of a simple lunch counter that also serves pizza. Choose your poison, but I always opt for the Tavern.
